They say hope springs eternal.  Well so does creativity and so, we suspect, do the potential quips, gags and one liners that will likely spring from contact with yet another ridiculously clever, bold, and eye catching release from the crazies at Grateful Palate.  What’s better than Bitch, a red wine that has penetrated all levels (depths?) of the wine buying public for not only its controversial label but the fact that it is actually rather good juice for a really  modest price? Why, sparkling Bitch, of course.  Bitch Bubbly is not only this year’s “pet rock” (are we dating ourselves?), a wine that will find many homes based on its, um, numismatic impact,  it is also one of the more shamelessly pandering wines to come along in a long time.  Fresh, fizzy, with a bit of sweetness (but not too much) and fresh acidity, this is all Grenache bubbly that delivers plenty of jubilant strawberry fruit.  It’s made under the supervision of one of Australia’s top winemakers, Chris Ringland, and it’s much more than just a catchy label. We can see this creating conversation at holiday tables throughout the realm and then being drunk down by a wide range of palates over dinner because it’s actually a pleasing, direct, fruit driven quaff.  The name, the price, the wine’s broad appeal, the biggest problem we see here is keeping it in stock once the word gets out.  Consider this the early warning.  It’s fun, it’s gimmicky, it’s well priced and it’s deliciously unassuming.  Who doesn’t like candy? There’s a new Bitch in town.
